Long Island Rally: World Remembrance Day for Traffic Victims
We meet to remember those who have been injured and killed on Long Island streets, and ask that WE do more – collaboratively. WE cannot let the selfish, lazy approach to injuries and deaths as “inevitable” continue to wrongfully dictate how we approach our streets.
So we rally to #demandbetter across Long Island, and we do this together. Residents, organizations, leaders, police – we have to do this together. We have asks ..
We will ask on a local level for our bike lanes to be expedited, for the boardwalk to be marked, and that the planning of our streets be collaborative for the safety and benefit of all users. In Island Park, we need to expedite the Complete Streets process with strong attention by the train station where too many have been injured and killed.
Also, our leaders in Albany must pass the 3-foot Safe Passing Amendment for safer streets statewide.
And finally, we must change our language to reflect these are not accidental happenings- they are crashes. They are preventable. Your actions and your language matters. #crashnotaccident
This rally will be followed by a ride through long beach – Kidical / Critical Mass style – over into Island Park and back around. This will be a safely guided legal ride, family-friendly.
