STATE LEVEL FUNCTION – The Government of Punjab (Transport Department, Punjab Police and Education Department), Punjab State Road Safety Council along with ArriveSAFE, an NGO on Road Safety observed the Day at Police Lines, Jalandhar on 16th November 2014.
REMEMBRANCE – Mr. Ajit Singh Kohar, Hon’ble Transport Minister Punjab and Chairman, Punjab State Road Safety Council was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He paid floral tributes and lighted a candle at a Memorial to remember those who lost their lives on the roads of Punjab.
SILENCE FOLLOWED BY BUGLE & RELEASE OF BALLOONS – Two-minute silence was observed while Punjab Police sounded the buglers in remembrance and balloons were released.
MESSAGES AT TOLL PLAZAS, CINEMA HOUSES & FM RADIOS – The message of WDOR and consequences of “Speeding” and “Drink Driving” was displayed at all Toll Plazas and screened in Cinema Houses all over Punjab in an endeavour to reach out to the maximum audience, nearly FIVE HUNDRED THOUSAND road users that travel on the busy National and State Highways.
HONOURING THE SAVIOURS – He honoured Kulvir Singh Chatha of Village Chatha Sekhwan, Sangrur who risked his life to save seventeen, five-year-old schoolchildren from the burning school bus that caught fire after ramming into a high voltage electricity pole. The bus got totally burnt within two minutes. Four Policemen were also honoured for saving road traffic victims.
PRESENCE OF VICTIMS’ KIN – Mr. Rajan Kohli, father of Sareh Kohli who lost his life along with two other youngsters when their speeding car hit a tree, was also present. 100 officials of Jalandhar Police donated blood on the occasion.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP – 100 officials of Punjab Police donated blood to mark the occasion.
NCC CADETS – More than 100 NCC Cadets (National Cadet Corps) promised to assist the Police and ArriveSAFE in spreading awareness on the issues of Speeding and Drink Driving.
