A memorial service is being held at the helipad at Landspítalan in Fossvogur.

Responders will line up helicopters, vehicles, and equipment that are important in saving lives when a traffic accident occurs. First responders are honored especially on this day.

In addition, symbolic commemorative ceremonies will be held throughout Iceland organized by the ICE-SAR.

Mrs. Halla Tómasdóttir, the President of Iceland, will give a speech. A person who has experienced firsthand the consequences of a fatal road accident will share her experience.

It is customary in Iceland to dedicate the day to a certain danger that can lead to a fatal traffic accident. This time it’s driver’s fatigue.

In addition to commemorating those who have died in traffic accidents on this day, gratitude is also returned to emergency responders who provide help and rescue in often very difficult situations. Parties that have saved many lives.
