Families of traffic crash victims, politicians and street safety advocates will gather at Fresno City Hall to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and to call for safer streets with room for all users of our roads, including pedestrians and bicyclists. This event is one of hundreds happening across the U.S., which is continuing to experience elevated traffic fatalities even as national numbers are beginning to decline – after the highest number of deaths amongst people walking in 40 years. In Fresno, we have seen a number of horrifying incidents. This year, 26 people on bikes and on foot have been lost so far amid 2,851 collisions, numbers already eclipsing the 24 lives lost last year.

The event will be preceded by a bike ride at 1 pm to Roosevelt High School. At 3:00, we will have words from victims’ families, politicians and advocates. We will have memorials at the event, including flowers, ghost bikes, and ghost shoes.

Organized by the City of Fresno’s Active Transportation Advisory Committee, Fresno County Bicycle Coalition, and more.
