MAYANK FOUNDATION PAYS HOMAGE TO THE ROAD CRASH VICTIMS
Ferozepur- based social welfare organisation Mayank Foundation achieved a rare feat by observing ‘The World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims’ on November 21, 2021. Only a handful organizations come forward globally to observe the day which is celebrated on the third Sunday in November every year as a tribute to the victims of the road traffic crashes.
The observance for the road tragedies victims was started by the British road crash victim charity- RoadPeace in 1993 and was adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2005. The members of the foundation held a program at Municipal Committee Park in the evening and sensitize the public about the day and ask the city residents to take a pledge to follow the rules of the traffic in true spirit to reduce the road calamities.
Banners and placards showcasing the importance of observing traffic rules were displayed and traffic police personnel also joined the foundation in commemorating the day with holding candles in their hands as a mark of prayer and respect for the victims of road accidents. While addressing the gathering of the people, Deepak Sharma and Arnish Monga of the foundation informed that one life is snuffed out in road tragedy every 24 seconds in India. About 1.5 lac people lost their lives on the roads in the country only in 2020, which witnessed relatively less movement of vehicles due to corona lockdown.
The foundation urged the people to come forward to save precious lives and offered prayers for the departed souls. Various delegates of other organisations namely Amit Foundation, Citizen Council, Udhgam- The Rising Path, Rotary Club, President of Municipal Committee Rinku Grover, Parminder Handa, Marcus Bhatti, Sunir Monga and Vipul Narang also graced the occasion.
